PreGel was founded in 1967 by Lucio Rabboni, who left a university teaching career to develop new flavours for gelato; the name is an abbreviation of 'preparati per gelato' (gelato preparations). From its production headquarters in Gavasseto, Reggio Emilia, in the heart of the Italian Food Valley, PreGel has grown into one of the world's largest manufacturers and distributors of ingredients and semi-finished products for artisan gelato, sorbetto, soft serve, frozen yogurt and pastry.
The company introduced products that shaped the market: Gran Stracciatella Reale in 1970, the Traditional Paste Zabajone Vittoria in 1971 and Yoggi®, its landmark yogurt flavour for gelato, in 1985. Today the range spans bases, traditional pastes, fruit products, toppings and variegates for both gelato and pastry professionals.
PreGel employs around 700 people between Italy and its international subsidiaries, operates more than 65,000 square metres of facilities in Italy plus a production site in the United States, and runs over 20 gelato and pastry training centres worldwide, supporting professionals from recipe development to point of sale.
